Remodeled 1939 Ladue home is perfect for couple starting their family

In the dining room, which is more neutral overall, Wideman layered in textures and metallic hues to create visual interest, with O'Bryan once again creating floor-length custom draperies.

The kitchen got a full remodel, though its footprint remained the same. For a nice, clean look, they went with white cabinetry and white quartz countertops, but they wanted a backsplash that, Williams says, "got people's attention." Wideman found a striking glass mosaic tile by SOCI and carried the backsplash all the way to the ceiling around a small window.

The addition of a built-in bench next to the window creates a cozy breakfast nook when matched with a round table and comfy chairs. "It opens the space and makes the circulation in the room better," says Wideman.

A contemporary chandelier resembling a cluster of soap bubbles hangs over the table, adding a touch of whimsy. To allow in plenty of light, O'Bryan fitted the double window with a simple box-pleat valance (with coordinating bench cushion). "We did not want to compete with the gorgeous backsplash tile and light fixture, so when we saw this fabric for the valances it was the perfect fit," she says. "It complemented every feature in the room without taking away from the design elements."

With the remodel complete, Williams and McLaren are pleased with the results of their professionally designed home. "This is the first time I've ever done anything like this," says Williams. "It was definitely worth it."
